Abstract:
Thepurposeofthisstudywastoexaminethedeterminantofhouseholduptakein
communitybasedhealthinsuranceandtheeffectofuptakeincommunitybased
healthinsuranceonhouseholdhealthexpenditureinHaramayaandKersaDistrict.
Thestudyusedcross-sectionalsurveyresearchdesignandquantitativeapproach.
A surveywasconductedbyusing360structuredclose-endedquestionnaires
distributed equallyto communitybased healthinsuranceadoptersand non adoptersinthedistrict.Quantitativedataanalysismechanism wasused to
analysecollecteddata.From quantitativedataanalysisdescriptivestatisticsand
logisticregressionstatisticaltoolswereusedtoexaminethedeterminantof
uptakeincommunitybasedhealthinsurance.Linearregressionstatisticaltools
wereusedtoexaminetheeffectofuptakeincommunitybasedhealthinsurance
onhouseholdhealthexpenditure.Thefindingsofthestudyindicatethatmarketing
strategy,qualityofhealthcare,anddemographicfactorsdetermineuptakein
communitybasedhealthinsurance.Thefindingsalsoshowuptakeincommunity
basedhealthinsurancenegativelyaffectshouseholdhealthexpenditure.Thusthis
studyrecommendedthatbothHaramayaandKersaDistrictcommunitybased
health insurance coordinators should really give emphasis on addressing
marketingstrategy,qualityofhealthcare,anddemographicfactorstoreachtheir
goalofreachingalllowincomehouseholdsininformalurbansectorsandrural
areas.
