The main of the study was to investigate the role of community elders in transforming inter-clan conflicts in the Gardo district. This study employed a qualitative research approach and case study research design. Primary data were collected through qualitative data collection techniques such as key informant interview and focus group discussion. A total number of 30 informants participated in the study. Discourse and textual data analysis method were used. The findings show that there are challenges facing community elders like unwritten agreements, corruption and bribery, lack of education, communication barriers, limited resources, and resistance to change. It is necessary for the elders to apply the Islamic Sharia law and also to write down the customary law (Xeer) of the society that is in agreement. The elders always try to prevent inter clan conflict between the clans, i raise awareness, and the local government helps us conduct training on how to reduce the conflicts between clans. It is always the responsibility of the community leaders to hold peace talks between the two clans that have been fighting to create a peaceful environment for both of them. |
