Abstract:
This study has been conducted at Nensabo District West Arsi Zone of Oromia Reginal state
with general objective of assessing factors affecting girls’ education in Nensabo District. The
specific objectives of the study were to analyze the status of gender disparity at school in the
study area, to assess economic factors affecting girls’ education in the study area, to assess
socio-economic factors affecting girls’ education in the study area. In order to carry out the
stated objectives of the research, primary data were collected from respondents. In the study,
quantitative and qualitative methods with mixed approaches were employed in order to collect
relevant data from respondents. For this purpose six localities were randomly selected from
among eighteen localities of the District. The sample population of the study was parents and
girls in the study area. The total sample of the population of the study was 208. Snowball
sampling was employed to select parents and girls. The required data was gathered through
the use of interview question, focused group discussion and document analysis. The
quantitative data obtained through interview question was analyzed using frequencies,
percentage and mean. On the other hand, qualitative data gathered through focused group
discussion was interpreted and described to supplement the findings of quantitative data
analysis. Furthermore, the study revealed that: socio-cultural, economic and school distance
affected girls’ education. Recommendations were drawn based on the findings of the study.
