dc.description.abstract The main objective of this study was to identify the School Principals In Instructional Leadership practices in Secondary Schools of East Hararge Zone,Oromia Regional State. To achieve this objective, descriptive survey researches design was employed. The study was conducted in 8 secondary schools of the Zone. The respondents were school leaders (8 principals, 42 department heads, and 8 supervisors) and 124 sample teachers from total 182 were selected by stratified random sampling. The questionnaire was developed and distributed to 58 school leaders and 124 teachers. Interview was conducted with 10 school leaders and 20 teachers and the documents were reviewed by the researcher in 8 sample secondary schools. The department heads and teachers’ respondents were selected by stratified random sampling techniques. But, from school leaders (principals and supervisors) were selected by availability sampling techniques. The data were gathered through questionnaire, interview, and document review. Data gathered through questionnaire from teachers and school leaders (principals and department heads) were analyzed by computer software SPSS version 20, using the independentsamples t-test, mean and standard deviation. The finding of the study revealed that majority of the principals were not qualified in the position they hold currently and they were assigned to the position by merits only without keeping the directives of MoE. The researcher recommended for the findings, school principals should make clear school mission, vision and goals, and should made school plan and strategies that used to the contribution of principals in instructional leadership of schools. School principals should collaboratively work with community, parent, teachers, students and woreda education offices. Finally, MoE, Zone education office and the woreda education offices school leaders should give short term and long term training and supportive supervision to realize the schools mission and vision to bring about the effectiveness of their task. en_US
