dc.description.abstract The purpose of the study was to investigate the practices and challenges of material resource management in secondary schools of Haramaya district, East Hararghe Zone, Oromia National Regional State.To meet already stated objective, descriptive survey design was used to carry out this study. This is because the design helps to obtain firsthand information from multiple sources. Accordingly, the study was carried out on all four secondary schools in Haramaya district. Respondents and participants were selected by availability sampling, purposive sampling and stratified random sampling techniques due to the variability of the study population. Accordingly, the study involved all 106 teachers, 2 principals, 2 supervisors, 2 finance heads, 2 PTSA, and 2 store keepers. Data were collected through questionnaire, interview and document analysis. Data gathered through questionnaire were quantitatively analyzed using percentage, standard deviation,mean and combined mean whereas the data gathered through interview, open ended questions and document analysis were qualitatively analyzed. The finding of the study revealed that there are guidelines and policies regarding to educational material managementsand utilization in schools. The practice of educational material management and utilization was found to be poor in terms of involving stakeholders (Parent teacher association, finance heads, storekeepers, principals etc). The findings of the study further indicated that the major problems that are found challenge for material management system are; lack of uniformity of material management and utilization , low awareness andtraining about material management functions and there integrated relationbetween each activities. The researcher also forwarded that Relevant and adequate educational materials ought to be supplied to schools at the right time. This would promote the implementation of educational objectives. From the finding of the study we can change that there is low practice of material resource management in the study areas en_US
