dc.description.abstract The purpose of this study was to assess challenges in the implementation of instructional supervision in government secondary schools of West Soro district in Hadiya Zone. To conduct this study, the descriptive survey research method was employed. One expert of district Education quality assurance coordinator and 6 principals included as respondents selected by using availability sampling technique and 92 teachers have participated in the study through stratified sampling technique. Questionnaire, interview and document reviews were main tool of data collection. Mean, standard deviation, average mean and t test were utilized to analyze quantitative data. The qualitative data were analyzed through narration and interpretation. The result of the study indicated that teachers lacked awareness and orientation on the activities and significance of instructional supervision. Ineffective implementation of supervisory options matching with the individual teacher’s professional development, and inability of supervisors to apply the necessary procedures for classroom observation properly. On the other hand, among the factors influencing the instructional supervision, lack of appropriate training programs for supervisors, lack of commitments and poor communication between teachers and supervisors, incompetence and inexperienced supervisors to assist teachers in order to improve teaching-learning activities. Lack of supervision manuals and technological devices in the schools, and shortage of allocated budget for supervisory activities were. It is recommended to provide appropriate trainings for supervisors, create commitment and active communication between teachers and supervisors, necessary resources such as supervision manuals as well as technological equipment and properly skilled man power with an adequate budget for effective implementation of instructional supervision at the school level was suggested. en_US
