The purpose of this study was to assess the school leadership efforts and challenges in
educational materials management and utilization in secondary schools of dire dawa
administration. To achieve this purpose, the study employed a descriptive survey design. Hence
a total of 147 sample subjects were selected in the study. Both quantitative and qualitative data
were collected through questionnaires, interviews and document analysis was made. Statistical
package social science (SPSS) version 20 software was employed to analyze the data by
percentages, means and standard deviation existing materials were not timely distributed to
the users; unwanted educational materials were not timely disposed; maintenance was also not
timely accomplished. As a guideline inventory expected to make at least once a year, however
the finding show that inventory made when it is needed. The study also shows that, the existing
plan for materials was made based on need assessment through participation is average;
however, the practices of implementation was not timely reported to the users. In the other
results, the practices of storages and level of damaged materials were moderately existed, there
is lack of commitment and responsibilities among users were affected on the EMMU. Finally, it
is recommended that training should be given to the users, materials should be timely
distributed to the users, inventories should be made at least once a year, disposition and
maintenance should also made on time. To close the existing gaps; the school leaders,
education bureau and finance and economic development bureau of Dire Dewa Administration
should come together and develop the effective improvement of EMMU for the better
educational out comes. |
