Abstract:
The study was aimed to assess the Practices and Challenges in Utilization of Educational
Management Information System in Secondary schools East Hararghe Zone, Oromia,
Ethiopia. Descriptive survey method was employed to realize the objective of the study. The
major tools used for data collection were questionnaires and interview guiding questions and
Data analysis was conducted by using frequency count, percentages, mean, grand mean. The
study was carried out by five secondary schools and that were selected by purposive sampling
technique, Woreda and urban were selected by using stratified sampling technique due to the
socio-economic and socio-culture difference. Woreda of the study area were selected by
simple random sampling technique. Overall, out of 197 intended respondents 185 (93.9%) of
them were participated in the study. The findings disclosed at EMIS are determined and
handicapped by different factors such as ICT materials, trained manpower, data management
system, and employee redness to utilize EMIS life cycle as needed. In addition to poor design
of data tools, trained manpower, lack of logical support and financial support for the person
who involved in the data process were the major problems that were observed to utilize EMIS
as needed in the secondary schools of study area Therefore, to overcome these shortcomings
necessary recommendations are enhance future performance of educational management
information system regarding to Designing clearly stated information policy, Reinforcing
transparency and accountability within the education system to improve utilization EMIS a
support in your organization, Allocating resources efficiently and effectively to improve
utilization EMIS a support in your organization Was strongly recommended.
