Abstract:
Practices and Challenges of School Leadership in Reducing Students‟ Academic Corruption in Some Selected Secondary Schools of Eastern Hararghe Zone: Oromia National Regional State

The purpose of this study was to assess the practices of school Leadership in Reducing Student‟s Academic Corruption in Some Selected Secondary Schools of Eastern Harerghe Zone ONRS and to find Challenges that faced School Leadership in Reducing Student‟s Academic Corruption as well as to determine the possible solutions for these problems. To carry out this study descriptive method was employed. Participants of the study were 124 teachers and 33 (principals and vice) by using simple random sampling and purposive sampling method. Seven education bureau officials‟ and seven supervisors were also involved in the study. The data were collected by using a questionnaire, interview, and document review. Both qualitative and quantitative data analysis method were employed in order to reach to the results. Data obtained through questionnaire were analyzed and summarized using statistical tools. The statistics were entered into Statistical package for the Social science (SPSS Version 20.0) software analysis. Statistical measures were performed on quantitative data assembled from the respondents; frequency count, Percentage and mean were conducted. The findings of the study revealed that the school leaders practices to prevent and fight corruption by using their adequate legal basis and creating ant-corruption unit as secondary schools to reduce student‟s academic corruption and also decentralization of access, quality, efficiency and effectiveness of education services and the lack of corruption control mechanisms were challenged school leaders in reducing student's academic corruption. Finally it was recommended that school leaders should strive to bring enthusiasms that help them to execute their duties and responsibilities. Furthermore, Moral education should be a curriculum component in all disciplines is significant for the purpose of the school leaders to reduce student‟s academic corruption.
