dc.description.abstract xii The main purpose of this study was to find out the impact of teachers’ turnover on students academic performance in six secondary schools of Jigjiga city administration. To do so a descriptive survey research method was employed to explore and describe the major causes and impacts of teachers’ turnover on students’ academic performance in the selected secondary schools. To carry out the study data were collected from 6 supervisors, 6 principals and 120 teachers. Purposive and random sampling techniques were used to select respondents in six public schools. Gathering data were used questionnaire, interview and document review. Before the questionnaires were distributed to the target groups, the items were pilot tested on one school that did not take part in the study. The reliability of the items was calculated using split-half method. After that a total of 120 copies of questionnaire were distributed to respondents. Out of the 120 copies that are 100% were filled and returned. Besides this, interview was conducted with 12 respondents. Census sampling technique was used to select the interviewees. Concerning the secondary sources, reports and documents were reviewed. The data were by collected using questionnaires were analyzed and interpreted using frequencies, percentages and mean values with SPSS version 20. The information gathered using interview and document review was thematically narrated. The study revealed that teachers have the problems of Shortage of salary, lack of incentive, lack of housing problems, and dissatisfaction with work environment conditions, lack of opportunity for professional development and poor administration management, unfair treatment. Poor administration support, lack of new additional training, large class size, students’ disciplinary problems, supervisors and teachers’ conflicts, unclear subject area sometimes cause leaves as a voluntary turnover without any problems. Furthermore, frequent teacher turnover impacted the proper attainment of school goals and objectives, and influenced the academic performance of students and overburdened the teachers. Turnover frequency is the major constraint impact on student academic performance in secondary schools particularly, in jigjiga city administration due to low salary. In view of this important re commendations and encouragement in order to mitigate and minimize the teachers’ turnover problems. en_US
