Abstract:
The main purpose of this study was to examine Influence of Principals Leadership Styles on
Students Performance in Primary Schools of Kabridehar City Council, Somali Regional State.
To conduct this study, descriptive survey research design was employed. A total of 215
respondents (167 teachers, 4 principals, 4 vice principals, 4 supervisors and 36 parent teacher
association) was included in the study. The principals, vice-principals, and supervisors were
selected using Purposive Sampling and parent teacher association was selected using
availability sampling while the teacher respondents were selected using simple random
sampling techniques. The data were gathered through questionnaire and interview. Data
gathered through questionnaire were analysed using frequency and percentage. The key finding
was that there is a less relationship between the leadership style and school performance. Most
principals do not involve others in making decisions on matters affecting them. Their
leadership style has an autocratic bias and they cannot strike a balance between democratic and
autocratic leadership. Most principals’ felt that they used Autocratic style of leadership though
their schools posted poor results in Kebri dehar Primary Education. On the other hand, most
teachers felt that their principals used autocratic leadership style. Key recommendation was
that there is a need for equipping the principal with the necessary management and leadership
skills through a structured and regular in-service programme. Nurturing of autocratic principles
should be instituted in all spheres of school administration, including the student leadership.
School principals should endeavour to employ both autocratic and democratic leadership style
