Abstract:
The main objective of this study was to Assessing the Practices of Communicative Grammar
teaching in four Selected Secondary Schools‟ in Hadiya Zone Grade 10 in focus. In order to
address the objective of the study, qualitative and quantitative research methods were used. The
subject of the study was selected using available sampling technique. The researcher was used
all 30 teachers from four high schools. Three kinds of date collection instruments such as:
questionnaire, interview and classroom observation were used in the study. The quantitative date
was which gathered through close ended questions were analyzed by descriptive statics of
percentage. The data obtained from open ended questionnaire, interview, and classroom
observation were analyzed qualitatively. The finding indicated that, majority of EFL teachers
haven‟t practiced CGT method to teach grammar. Similarly to this, on practice of CGT show
that deductive method used, in order to promote the value of CGT and to increase the students‟
interest towards this communicative teachers‟ teaching practice in teaching grammar should be
changed. EFL teachers should be give emphasis to effective way of practicing CGT activities in
EFL classroom and familiarize learners to different communicative activities. In addition to this
EFL teachers should give communicative activities to change student‟ view from form focused
grammar learning into communicative grammar learning method that improves students‟
communication
