The major objective of this study was to explore the factors affecting teaching of
listening skills in EFL classroom. In order to achieve the intended objective of this
research, a descriptive case study research design was employed. In related to this the
researcher also used qualitative and quantitative method of analysis to address the
issues. The sample of the study consisted of thirty seven grade seven students and three
English language teachers who taught English at Woni Number 2 Primary school.
Students were selected using simple random sampling technique. The data was collected
using three types of instruments such as questionnaire, interview and classroom
observation. As a result the study reviled that English teachers have problems about the
teaching of listening skill. It was observed that they face many challenges to implement
listening lesson in well-organized manner based on the current trends of language
teaching methodologies, which is communicative language teaching and language
learning principles. Challenges such as teachers speech rate to cover the content on
time , lack of time, inability of knowing strategies of teaching listening to make the
lesson interesting arises from teacher.. Moreover, the study reviled that the teaching of
listening at Wonji Number 2 primary School was hindered by teacher related factors.
Finally it was recommended that teachers should have commitment and motivation to
practice listening skills, teachers should practice the stages in listening lessons and
tasks should be prepared or designed by fulfilling the three stages of teaching listening
skills and also teachers should manage the time during teaching listening skills |
