dc.description.abstract The main purpose of this study was investigating challenges of teachers’ using literary texts in teaching reading skills: The case of Batu secondary and preparatory schools, in Oromia region at Batu administrative town zone. In order to arrive at this goal, 24 EFL teachers and 44 grade10 students were selected as sample population. The samples were all 24 EFL teachers and 44 students from the selected area. The teachers selected using comprehensive sampling whereas the students were selected using systematic random sampling technique. To attain the objectives, the researcher used descriptive survey design; both quantitative and qualitative methods were employed. Hence, quantitative and qualitative methods data were collected through three data gathering tools namely; Questionnaire, interview and observation were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The quantitative data collected through questionnaire were analyzed using SPSS software and illustrated through frequency and percentage while descriptive and interpretative analyses were used to analyzed the qualitative data collected through interview.. The results obtained by both analyses were triangulated to attain validity and reliability. The findings of this study ,revealed that the benefit of literary texts has gained prominent place in teaching reading skill and it made known EFL teachers’ in using reading skill through literary texts faced challenged by number of factors including teachers’ commitment toward the role of literary texts , lack of experience and preparation, difficulty, students’ motivation, and , lack of literary texts in the school, lack of in-service training and supervision are found to be the major ones. The students’ related factors include students` negative attitude towards the use of LT, poor LT reading experience and lack of awareness about value of LT reading in their English language improvement. Finally, it tried to use method of data analysis integrated analysis of data from all tools for similar questions or interview under subtopics. en_US
